Thais overseas belonging to anti-government groups held rallies across many countries in parallel with the mass protest in Bangkok yesterday.
In the United States, members of the so-called Red USA travelled in a convoy of about 50 vehicles carrying anti-Prayut government banners through Los Angeles.
In Japan, a group of people calling itself the "anti-dictatorship" element gathered at Shibuya train station in downtown Tokyo. They demanded an end to dictatorship. They also demanded justice for Japanese cameraman Hiroyuki Muramoto who was fatally shot by high-velocity weapons while covering the red-shirt protest on Dinso Road near the Democracy Monument on April 10, 2010.
The Criminal Court in 2015 ruled there was not sufficient evidence to determine who was responsible for the fatal shooting of the cameraman and three other people during a red-shirt protest in 2010 and an anti-government rally in 2013.
Also yesterday, protests by overseas Thais were held in Taipei, Sweden, Finland, Norway, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
In Taiwan, members of the Taiwan Alliance for Thai Democracy converged at the Ximending shopping district of Taipei. In Sweden, about a dozen people rallied at the Odenplan Plaza in Stockholm. In Australia, protests were held at the Sydney Town Hall, HSBC China Town and Tumbalong Park in Sydney as well as in the Surfers Paradise, in the state of Queensland. In France, a group of Thais demonstrated at the Place de la Republique in Paris in the early evening.
