CHIANG MAI: Thousands of people visited Doi Inthanon National Park in Chom Thong district during the weekend, expecting a cool change - and they were not disappointed.

Park chief Kriangkrai Chaipiset said 3,920 visitors passed through the gate.

The temperature at Kiew Mae Pan, a popular spot for a full view of natural beauty, dropped to 6°C on Monday morning. At the same time, it was 7°C at the top of Doi Inthanon.

Mr Kriangkrai said with the Meteorological Department forecasting that this year's cold season would be colder and longer, tourists should be able to enjoy the "sea of mist" and morning frost crystals sooner than usual.

Park staff would be on hand to provide assistance and information. Visitors would also have their temperature taken and be advised on wearing masks, washing ther hands and observing social distancing rules, he added.

The opportunity to experience a morning frost draws large numbers of visitors to Doi Inthanon National Park during the cold season, but it's a bit too early yet.
