Police are hunting those responsible for abandoning 14 Myanmar workers in Samut Prakan on Tuesday night.
The workers were taken from a factory in neighbouring Samut Sakhon province, where hundreds have tested positive for Covid-19 infection.
After being told about the 14 Myanmar workers being dumped in Bang Phli district, Bang Kaeo police found them stranded with their luggage on the side of the road.
They told police they had been working for about a month at the STI Precision plastic-moulding plant in the Muang district of Samut Sakhon. HR staff suddenly told them on Tuesday evening that police would be inspecting the premises and they had to leave immediately.
They said the bus driver who ditched them told them to hide in the woods but they refused, so he then took them to Soi Green Lake off Bang Na-Trat Road where they told him they had cousins.
The workers said they had tried to contact their cousins and acquaintances at a local factory but the factory owner would not let them enter the premises.
Col Kritphanu Chamnongwong from the Internal Security Operations Command (Isoc) said his staff would meet with migrant labour-related agencies to discuss inspections of all factories and dormitories where migrant workers work or live.
Meanwhile, Myanmar public health officers yesterday deported 29 Thai people from the infamous border town of Tachileik to Chiang Rai's Mae Sai district.
The Thais had been stranded in Myanmar ever since sneaking into the country via a natural border. One of them, a 33-year-old man, has so far tested positive for Covid-19 and all are being quarantined in Mae Sai.
