Siapo's mum accuses cops

The wanted mother of Siapo Po-arnon, a popular internet figure arrested in a high-profile raid on Feb 4 and charged with organising online gambling and money laundering, has claimed police are not basing their investigation on evidence.

Banyen Channara made the claim in a Facebook post, saying that is why she has refused to turn herself in out of fear she may be a victim of injustice.

Dismissing her claim, Pol Maj Gen Suwat Saengnoom, commander of the Crime Suppression Division (CSD) said police obtained solid evidence including money trails linked to all the suspects.

Police are hunting Ms Banyen following her failure to contact police to answer a complicity charge.

Investigators believe she is in hiding after seeing her son refused bail after his arrest.

A police source said Ms Banyen could have fled to Cambodia, along with a few other suspects.

The Police Cyber Task Force is exploring that possibility, the source said.

Pol Col Thongchai Yuket, head of the CSD's Sub Division 1, said another three suspects have been arrested, bringing the total number to 19. Another 12 suspects, including Ms Banyen, are still at large, he said.

On Feb 4, the 29-year-old Siapo, whose former name was Apirak Chat-anont, was apprehended at his home on Phetkasem Road in Phasi Charoen district of Bangkok.

His house was one of seven locations raided by police investigating a suspected online gambling network.
