AYUTTHAYA: One more Covid-19 infection has been detected in this central province, bringing the local total to 47, with three cases linked to Pornpat wet market in Pathum Thani province.

Provincial public health chief Peera Areerat said on Wednesday the new patient is a 25-year-old woman living in Phak Hai district. She is a niece of patient No 46, a vegetable vendor at Pornpat fresh market in Thanyaburi district of Pathum Thani

The woman and her 64-year-old aunt stay in the same house in Phai district, Dr Peera said.

The new patient's travel record showed she went to and returned from work, a factory at Bitech industrial estate in Bang Pa-in district, by private car. Before her infection was detected, she visited Grand market, which is a large bazaar in Uthai district of Ayutthaya, and a convenience store in Pa Mok district of Ang Thong.

Ayutthaya governor Panu Yaemsri on Wednesday ordered local leaders and volunteers to begin active case finding in communities where people had visited Pornpat and Suchart wet markets in Pathum Thani, the centre of a Covid-19 cluster. Both markets have been closed.

Ayutthaya now had three new cases linked to Pornpat market, Mr Panu said. Authorities were asking people who recently visited either of the two markets to cooperate and self-isolate at home for 14 days.

On Feb 13, a 42-year-old woman in Phak Hai district, a vegetable vendor at Pornpat market, tested positive for Covid-19. She was the first case in Ayutthaya to be linked to the wet market in Pathum Thani.
