Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said on Wednesday he had nothing to do with a gold pendant bearing his picture which Sira Jenjaka, a Bangkok MP of the ruling Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) showed reporters at parliament.

"I don't know about the matter and I have never suggested he produce such a pendant and nor has Mr Sira consulted me on it.

"And I don't agree with it. Don't drag me into this. I must come out to say because it's big news. I don't support it."

A source said Mr Sira apologised to Gen Prawit, who warned him to be more careful.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) said it will look into whether Mr Sira declared a gold necklace and the pendant depicting Gen Prawit as assets to the agency.

NACC spokesman and deputy secretary-general Niwatchai Kasemmongkol said the NACC will investigate the list of Mr Sira's declared assets when he assumed the post of an MP.

Mr Sira may have obtained the necklace and the pendant after submitting a declaration of assets and liabilities to the agency, Mr Niwatchai said.

"Upon becoming an MP, Mr Sira may or may not have submitted a declaration of those two assets [the gold necklace and the pendant] to the NACC. But whenever he leaves the post, he is required to submit the declaration again. The NACC will then check if those assets remain. If they disappeared [from the list], the NACC will look into whether they were sold to others," Mr Niwatchai said.

Mr Sira said that he had declared the gold necklace to the NACC upon assuming the post of MP. As for the pendant, he said he paid about 10,000 baht to have it made and he would declare it to the NACC later.

Earlier on Wednesday, Mr Sira showed the 5-baht-weight gold necklace and the pendant depicting Gen Prawit, the PPRP leader, to reporters at parliament.

He called the pendant Luang Por Pom of Pa Roy Tor, and said he respects Gen Prawit and believes the pendant can protect him from bad luck. Pom is Gen Prawit's nickname.
