PATTANI: A territorial defence volunteer was shot to death in a gun attack in Khok Pho district on Saturday evening, police said.

The incident occurred at about 7.45pm when Muhamad-suree Paenae, 40, was riding a horse back from work at the district office to his home in Na Kho village.

While passing a rice field near Moo 4 village in tambon Pa Bon of Khok Pho district, he was followed by two men on a motorcycle and the pillion rider shot him with a handgun, killing him instantly. Muhamad fell to the ground.

Police were investigating to establish whether the shooting was related to insurgency in the region.
