KANCHANABURI: Twenty-four Myanmar nationals were arrested for illegal entry after they slipped across the border into this western province on Monday.

The first group, four men and three women, aged 12-56, were caught about 11.30am.

They were spotted hiding in trees near Moo 8 village in tambon Nong Loo in Sangkhlaburi district by a patrol of the army's Surasee Task Force.

The seven said they crossed the border from Myanmar through a natural channel and were heading for Sangkhlaburi town to work.

They were handed over to Sangkhlaburi police for legal proceedings.

About 3pm, a goverment patrol from a checkpoint at Chong Khao Neep in Muang district found 17 Myanmar nationals, six men and 11 women, hiding near a village in tambon Ban Kao.

The migrants said they travelled from Dawei town to the border. They crossed using a natural pathway and walked 10 kilometres to the place where they were found.

They were waiting to be taken to various workplaces in Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon and Samut Prakan.

They said they had paid 11,000 baht each to a Myanmar job broker called Min Min.

The migrants were handed over to Muang police for legal action.
