'Exams will go ahead': Obec

The Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) on Wednesday dismissed a call for an exemption from a final exam by students who said they might have to skip the exam if it coincides with a national exam required for admission to university.

While these national exams for university admission, the General Aptitude Test (GAT) and Professional Aptitude Test (PAT), are unlikely to be rescheduled, the final exam is more likely to be rescheduled as schools individually prepare tests and administer the exam, said Obec secretary-general Amporn Pinasa.

Schools also have more flexibility in assessing the performance of their students, he said, adding that schools may opt for assessing performance by giving students a final assignment as a substitute for the final exam.
