The Ukrainian ambassador died of suspected acute heart failure while holidaying at a resort on Koh Lipe in Satun yesterday.

Beshta: Farewell trip to island

Island police were alerted to the incident about 5.30am at Bu-Nga Resort in tambon Koh Sarai of Muang district where the body of the ambassador, Andrii Beshta, 45, was spotted. There was no evidence of illegal entry or any kind of physical altercation.

Andrii's 17-year-old son, Ostap, who was also on the trip, told Pol Capt Beedun Saripa that his father had come back to the room on Saturday at 11pm. About 4.30am the next morning he fainted after vomiting violently.

Andrii was set to leave his role as the Ukraine's official Thai consul and was believed to have been using the holday as a chance to say farewell to personal acquaintances and Satun Provincial Tourism Association president Samart Charoenrit before returning to the Ukraine in June.

The initial autopsy at Satun Hospital attributed his death to an acute heart attack. He also tested negative for Covid-19. His body is being transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, Police General Hospital, for further examination.

While his death was initially attributed to natural causes, there has so far been no formal announcement.
