Police nab Nigerian, seize Australia-bound heroin

Police arrested a Nigerian man and a Thai woman for cocaine possession and in a separate case seized about half a kilogramme of heroin destined for Australia.

Office of the Narcotics Control Board secretary-general, Wichai Chaimongkol, said yesterday that 470 grammes of heroin were found hidden within a photo frame in a parcel at a shipping company in Samut Prakan's Bang Phli district on Monday. The parcel came from Surat Thani and was destined for Australia.

Meanwhile, 390g of cocaine was seized at a postal service company also on Monday. The drug was hidden in mascara tubes sent from Costa Rica to Pathum Thani. Police later arrested Nuchanart Leela, 27, the supposed recipient, in Khlong Luang district.

Police also arrested Nigerian national Ejimadu Uchechukwu Benjamin, 41, in Bang Na district before finding 79 grammes of cocaine in his condominium in the Srinakarin area.

Elsewhere, the DSI and anti-narcotics police seized 50 million baht in a drug case in Tak province.

The seizures from members of the same family were also made on Monday after police suspected financial transactions were linked to a drugs network.

Since 2013, an average 500 million baht a year had circulated through their bank accounts, police said.
