Navy uniform designer dies

Commander Mayoon Boonyarattaphan, the first female navy officer whose draft proposals helped determine the design of women's uniforms in the Royal Thai Navy, died of natural causes at the age of 97 on Sunday.

The chanting ceremony for her funeral rites is taking place at Wat Khrua Wan Worawihan in Bangkok Yai district until Friday and her body will be cremated on Saturday at 4pm.

Cdr Mayoon was born on Dec 26, 1923. She graduated from the Faculty of Arts at Chulalongkorn University, before starting work for the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defence on July 1, 1944.

Her last position was serving at the Army Training Command, before she submitted her resignation on Feb 4, 1982.
