Pregnant woman dies after being infected with Covid-19

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN: A seven-month pregnant woman has died after being infected with the coronavirus in this lower Central province.

The 34-year-old woman's death was reported yesterday, along with 79 new Covid-19 cases, by provincial health chief Suriya Kooharat.

Dr Suriya said the new cases increased the accumulated number of infections in the province to 3,488 of whom 907 were still under treatment and 11 had died.

The 11th fatality was the woman in her 28th week of pregnancy. On June 27, she sought treatment at Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital after developing chest pains and breathing difficulties. She was found to be infected with the Delta variant of the coronavirus. On July 9, her condition deteriorated and she died on July 10.

Meanwhile, Naretrit Khatthaseema, Samut Sakhon provincial public health chief, said yesterday that Pichet "Mor Nung" Sahakij, a nurse at Tambon Suan Luang Health Promotion hospital in Krathum Baen district, who died from Covid-19, did not have a vaccine due to allergies and asthma.

Dr Naretrit was responding to a Facebook post on a page under the name of Ratirat Rotthong, a teacher in Samut Sakhon, who on Sunday posted her condolences message to Pichet.

She said Pichet had already received two doses of the Sinovac vaccine but still succumbed to the virus.
