More cases found among 'Phuket Sandbox' arrivals

Phuket: Three more Covid-19 cases were found among tourists which had arrived on the southern resort island under the Phuket Sandbox scheme, raising the total to six, Phuket health office's chief Koosak Kookiatikoon said yesterday.

The three new cases were a 45-year-old Myanmar national, a 28-year-old South African, and a 13-year-old Swiss, Dr Koosak said.

People who had been in close contact with them have been notified and been under a disease control process, he said.

Of the 3,917 tourists which had arrived in Phuket from July 1-10, six of them had tested positive for Covid-19 -- one from the United Arab Emirates, three from Myanmar, one from South Africa and one from Switzerland, Dr Koosak said.

Meanwhile, Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Health Office reported 125 new Covid-19 cases -- most of whom are returnees from high-risk provinces -- and one fatality yesterday.

The 125 cases were found across 27 of the province's 32 districts, raising the accumulated number of infections there to 2,117. Of the total, 1,096 has recovered, 998 are still being treated, while 23 had died.

The latest fatality was a 70-year-old woman in tambon Takhian in Dan Khun Thot district. She was admitted to Dan Khun Thot Hospital and diagnosed with Covid-19 on June 24. Her condition deteriorated and she was referred to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital, where she died on Sunday at 11.40pm.

Out of the 125 people who were diagnosed with Covid-19 in the province yesterday, 63 had travelled from Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, Ayutthaya, Lop Buri or Saraburi.
