Samut Sakhon reports 15 more Covid deaths, 1,639 new cases

SAMUT SAKHON: The province reported 15 more Covid-19 deaths and 1,639 new cases on Tuesday and said the province’s eight field hospitals were now at 85% capacity, with 436 beds unoccupied.

Of the new infections, 1,335 were confirmed at hospitals and 304 detected via mass testing.

The cases found at hospitals comprised 817 people living in Samut Sakhon (779 Thais and 38 foreign nationals) and 518 people from other provinces (483 Thais and 35 foreign nationals).  

The 304 cases found by mass testing were 156 Thais and 148 foreign nationals, the provincial public relations office said in an update on its Facebook on Tuesday.

The 1,639 new infections brought the provincial total to 61,897 of whom 33,935 had recovered, with 485 discharged over the past 24 hours. 

A total of 27,737 were still under treatment. The 15 latest deaths raised accumulated fatalities to 225,  the provincial public relations office said.

The province’s eight field hospitals have 2,980 beds, with 2,544 beds occupied (85%). There were 436 beds unoccupied as of midnight.

Samut Sakhon also has 36 community isolation (CI) centres for Covid-19 infected people with mild symptoms.

The CI centres are in all three districts - Muang, Krathum Baen and Ban Phaeo - and have a total of 4,579 beds, of which 3,372 beds were used (74%). There were still 1,207 beds available, according to the provincial public relations office Facebook.
