The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Charnchai Sawangsagdi as president of the Supreme Administrative Court, according to the Office of the Administrative Court.
The appointment of Mr Charnchai, currently the vice president of the Supreme Administrative Court, will be submitted for royal endorsement. He will succeed president Piya Patangta whose term ends on Sept 26.
Mr Charnchai was nominated for the presidency by the Judicial Commission of the Administrative Court in February this year. The appointment is in accordance with the Act on the Establishment of Administrative Courts and Administrative Court Procedure.
Charnchai: Handled high-profile cases
Mr Charnchai has a doctorate degree in public law from Aix-Marseille III University and is a special professor in public law at Thammasat University.
He has served as deputy secretary-general of the Council of State and secretary-general of the Office of the Administrative Court.
Mr Charnchai's high-profile cases include a lawsuit between the Permanent Secretary Office of the Prime Minister's Office and iTV and a dispute between former National Security Council secretary-general Thawil Pliensri and fugitive former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra.
