NAKHON RATCHASIMA: Talad Suranaree, a major wholesale market for agricultural products from the Northeast, has been closed from Sunday to Wednesday after 79 traders tested positive for Covid-19, the provincial communicable disease committee announced on Sunday.

The new infections were found after 1,444 traders at Talad Suranaree market underwent testing for the virus on Friday, with results on Saturday showing 79 had contracted the coronavirus.

This prompted Nakhon Ratchasima mayor Prasert Boonchaisuk to issue an order to close the market for four days from 2pm on Sunday until Sept 15 for disinfection. The market is located next to Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital on Mitrapap highway in Muang district.

The provincial communicable disease committee said 170 new Covid cases were reported on Sunday -- 140 infected within the province and 30 from elsewhere.

The province now had 11 clusters of infections under close monitoring.
