Korat to roll out booster shots by AZ on Sept 24

Nakhon Ratchasima plans to begin administering booster shots for people who have already received two shots of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine on Sept 24, while Samut Sakhon will do the same on Oct 1.

The launch of booster shot injections in Nakhon Ratchasima will mark Prince Mahidol Day, said Jade Boonyawongvirot, assistant director of Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital.

Sept 24 of every year is designated as Prince Mahidol Day in commemoration of his contributions to the development of modern medical education in Thailand and his devotion to the healthcare of Thais.

"The AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine will be used as the booster shot for people who received two shots of the Sinovac vaccine three months ago or before that," Dr Jade said.

"The Department of Disease Control will finalise details regarding quotas of vaccine doses that will be distributed to the provinces under the booster shot injection programme, which kicks off on Sept 24."

While waiting, he said, the hospital will speed up verifying the names of those who have received two shots of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine.

The hospital is also preparing for the registration of the people intending to get the booster shot and scheduling their vaccination queues, he said.

In Samut Sakhon, governor Verasak Vichitsangsri, meanwhile, said the province has decided to begin administering booster shots to people on Oct 1 instead.

Those who will be included in the booster shot injection programme are people who have received all two shots of the Sinovac vaccine. Other beneficiaries of the programme will be those who have been infected with Covid-19 and have yet to receive any Covid-19 vaccine, and ones who have been infected with the coronavirus after receiving only one shot of the Covid-19 vaccine, said the governor.

"The people who have been infected after having received two shots of the vaccine won't be given the booster shot just yet," he said. "The province is now finalising details of its booster shot injection programme."
