Huge drug hauls in Songkhla, 2 arrested

SONGKHLA: Police seized a total of 882,000 methamphetamine pills and 5.6 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine in two separate actions in Hat Yai and Bang Klam districts last week, Provincial Police Region 9 commissioner Pol Lt Gen Ronnasin Pusara said at a press conference on Sunday. Two suspects were arrested.

The two actions followed police surveillance.

In the first action, the commissioner said, a police team on Sept 13 raided a house off Rat Yindee road in Hat Yai district and arrested Suradet Thongwong, 31, seizing 282,000 meth pills and 5.6kg of crystal meth found in his possession.

The police also seized a Honda car and 18 other articles for examination.

On Sept 16, another police team searched a house in tambon Ban Han, Bang Klam district, and seized 600,000 meth pills in parcels. They arrested Anuchart Ruamkaew, 48.

According to Pol Lt Gen Ronnasin, Mr Anuchart said he had been hired by an unidentified man who contacted him on the LINE app. asking him to receive parcels sent to him via a private delivery company and store them in his house. He would then contact the clients by phone to pick up the parcels, which contained packages of meth pills.

He said he was paid 2,000 baht for the delivery of each parcel, and had carried out the procedure about 10 times.

Both suspects were charged with having drugs in possession with intent to sell.
