Vaccinated holidaymakers flock to Koh Kut in Trat

TRAT: More than 1,000 vaccinated holidaymakers flocked to Koh Kut, a popular tourist destination off the coast of this eastern province on Friday, the first day of a three-day long holiday weekend.

Many tourists queued at ferry ticket booths to board vehicles to take them to the Laem Sok pier in tambon Ao Yai in Muang district. When they arrived at the pier, they boarded ferries to Koh Kut, located about 40 kilometres south of the larger and more popular Koh Chang.

Thanaban Boonfu, an employee of a Government Savings Bank branch in Bangkok, arrived with five friend. He said his group chose to visit Koh Kut as they wanted to experience the natural beauty of the sea and other attractions on the island after the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration eased restrictions on interprovincial travel.

To visit Koh Kut, visitors were required to prove they have had at least one dose of vaccine against the coronavirus, said Mr Thanabun.

Weeraya Panthongsri, head of the service staff of Boonsiri ferry services, said the number of visitors was rising on Friday as it was a long holiday weekend. All visitors had to abide by provincial measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, she said. They were required to show evidence of vaccination services to boat staff.

More than 1,000 holidaymakers boarded ferry boats to Koh Kut on Friday. Other visitors also boarded speedboats to the island.
