Lerdsin in 200-bed field hospital move

Lerdsin Hospital is working with the private sector to establish a field hospital in Bangkok to accommodate Covid-19 patients with moderate-to-severe symptoms.

It is expected to open next month.

Medical Services Department director-general Somsak Akksilp said yesterday that given the severity of the outbreak in Bangkok, the challenge for severe cases was providing immediate treatment. However, he said, there have not been enough hospital beds for severe cases in the capital.

Dr Somsak said the hospital was working with Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group and Pruksa Real Estate Co Ltd to set up the field hospital, which will have 200 beds for patients with moderate-to-severe symptoms.

The field hospital will allow more people to have access to medical services which can improve treatment of severe cases as well as reduce the number of deaths, Dr Somsak said.

In recent months, Lerdsin Hospital has been treating 750 Covid-19 patients each day. At least 50-80 patients were admitted daily, taking the total to 6,000 cases treated. The hospital has also provided treatment for more than 700 home isolation cases.

Hospital director Sakarin Wonglertsiri said the hospital has also worked with the Lerdsin Hospital Foundation to roll out a campaign to receive donations for the field hospital and medical equipment.

"Those who are interested can donate via the 022-106738-8 account number at Krung Thai Bank named "Lerdsin Hospital Foundation" as part of the effort to combat Covid-19," Dr Sakarin added.
