Bangkok safe, Mun River warning for Isan

Bangkok remains safe from flooding by the Chao Phraya River, but residents of five northeastern provinces are warned the Mun River could soon overflow.
Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang said on Thursday the Chao Phraya River was flowing at 3,069 cubic metres per second in Bang Sai district of Ayutthaya. The river's level in Pak Klong Talad area of Bangkok was 1.76 metres above mean sea level, still 1.24 metres below the top of the flood escarpment.
"Water discharged from the Chao Phraya dam and the high tides have not affected Bangkok," the governor said.
Water levels were 24-70 centimetres below critical for the eastern floodwalls of the capital in Sai Mai, Min Buri and Lat Krabang districts, he said.
However, Mr Aswin warned that the Chao Phraya River would rise by 30-50 centimetres from Thursday to Sunday, and 239 families living near the river outside the embankment should closely monitor the river level.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation warned on Thursday that the Mun River might overflow in Buri Ram, Surin, Roi Et and Si Sa Ket provinces from Friday to Monday, and in Ubon Ratchathani from Oct 16 to 20.
The rising river could cause flooding in Buri Ram's northern Satuk district; Surin's Chumphon Buri, Tha Tum and Rattanaburi districts; Roi Et's Phon Sai and Suwannaphum districts; Si Sa Ket's Muang, Pho Si Suwan, Bung Bun, Yang Chum Noi, Rasi Salai, Sila Lat, Uthumphon Phisai and Kanthararom district; and Ubon Ratchathani's Khuang Nai, Muang, Don Mot Daeng, Muang Samsip, Warin Chamrap and Sawang Wirawong districts.
