Last of Japan's 2 million doses arrives

The final 400,000-dose shipment of Japan's two-million-dose donation of AstraZeneca vaccine was due to arrive yesterday evening.

Government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has expressed thanks to the Japanese government for the last 385,210 doses of vaccine, of which this is the fourth and final batch.

With the arrival of this lot, Japan has donated a total of 2,043,100 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to the country, Mr Thanakorn said.

In addition to the vaccine, Japan has also provided oxygen-making equipment and facilitated vaccine transport.

Citing the prime minister, Mr Thanakorn said the government will make sure the donated supply will be distributed comprehensively to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, and he said the prime minister also pledged to expand cooperation between the two countries during a meeting on Thursday with Japan's ambassador.
