Thailand's Foreign Ministry has urged Myanmar to allow all concerned parties in the conflict-plagued nation to meet the Special Envoy of the Asean Chair during his visit to the country.
Ministry spokesman Tanee Sangrat said that Thailand very much hopes the Special Envoy of the Asean Chair will be able to visit Myanmar soon and that he will have the opportunity to meet with all parties concerned.
Mr Tanee said it would be an important first step in the process of confidence-building, with a goal of encouraging dialogue among the conflicting parties concerned in Myanmar as envisioned in the Five-Point Consensus of the Asean Leaders.
"We ... believe in the collective wisdom of all Asean member states, including Myanmar, to overcome all challenges together in the spirit of the Asean family," he said.
He said Thailand strongly believes that the international community should continue to providing humanitarian assistance to Myanmar's people, and as a good friend of all Myanmar people, Thailand will continue to do its best to help.
"We urge all parties in Myanmar to ensure safe and effective delivery of humanitarian assistance, especially those related to public health, to those in need," he added.
His comments came after Brunei's Second Foreign Minister Erywan Yusof, who was chosen as the Special Envoy, revealed that he might have problems meeting opposition political leaders, including pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was ousted in the Feb 1 coup.
It was reported last week that a junta spokesman said it would be "difficult" for the envoy to hold talks with people on trial.
