Police identify victim in Samut Prakan suicide

The body of a man who jumped off a bridge was found in the Chao Phraya River in Phra Pradaeng of Samut Prakan on Tuesday morning, police said.

The man, identified as Charoenchoke Pentamwa, 26, was seen floating near Wat Bang Hua Sua by tug-boat driver Wissnu Wipolklang.

Mr Wissanu used a rope to bring the body to the temple's pier and alerted police to investigate.

Police said the clothes on the body matched those of a 26-year-old man who leaped off Bhumibol Bridge on Tuesday morning and disappeared.

They contacted his wife, who confirmed his identity as that of her husband. She said her husband must have been depressed due to financial problems. Both of them had to stop working after contracting Covid-19 two months ago and used up all their savings, she said.

According to police, the victim visited some friends to say goodbye before riding a motorcycle to the bridge.

He took pictures of the bridge and sent them to his wife before jumping.

The body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy, police said.

A team of divers was sent to search for him after the jump was reported.

Police found a motorcycle, a pair of slippers and a mobile phone at the spot where he had jumped.
