10 held over exploitation

Police have arrested 10 people for allegedly being involved in the sexual exploitation of 40 women, including underage girls.

Pol Gen Roy Inkapairoj, deputy national police chief; Pol Maj Gen Wiwat Kamchamnan, commissioner of Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division; and Traiyarit Temahiwong, deputy director-general of the Department of Special Investigation said two of the suspects were customers and the rest worked together to traffic sex workers.

Pol Gen Roy said the eight suspects were bogus modelling agents who used social media platforms to lure women looking to earn extra money.

Previously, police arrested Sutthipong Prachanan, who allegedly ran Line and Facebook groups to dupe women.

Some of the people he had on his list were reportedly under 18.

Police then tracked down his alleged accomplices in six areas and arrested 10 people.

Nine of them accepted the charges while one denied them.

According to a source, police officers raided a house in a posh neighbourhood in Bangkok's Bueng Kum district and found a woman identified as Lapasrada, one of the eight suspects.

She denied the charge of exploiting underage girls.
