9,224 new Covid cases, 88 deaths

Pattani continues to see jump in new cases, Bangkok's increase rate slows

Thailand logged 9,224 new Covid-19 cases and 88 new fatalities on Friday, up by 256 cases and 24 deaths from the previous day, according to Public Health Ministry data on Saturday morning.

On Friday, 8,305 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus disease.

Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,874,302 Covid-19 patients, 1,756,449 of whom have recovered.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,903,165 Covid-19 cases. Of them, 1,783,875 have recovered.

The death toll stood at 19,064 during the third wave and 19,158 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The single-day records peaked two months ago, at 23,418 cases on Aug 13 and 312 deaths on Aug 18.

The 88 new fatalities on Friday were aged 21-93 and 50 of them were women. By nationality, three of them were Myanmar nationals and the rest were Thais.

Bangkok added one new death from Thusrday to 13 while eight more were reported in its adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (3), Nonthaburi (3), Pathum Thani (1) and Nakhon Pathom (1).

The Northeast reported four new deaths — one each in Kalasin, Udon Thani, Nakhon Ratchasima and Ubon Ratchathani.

The North saw five new fatalities in Phetchabun (2), Nakhon Sawan (2) and Tak (1).

The South saw 27 new deaths in Trang (9), Nakhon Si Thammarat (8), Yala (4), Chumphon (2),  Phuket (2), Narathiwat (1) and Songkhla (1).

Eleven other provinces recorded 31 more deaths in Ratchaburi (6), Chon Buri (4), Rayong (3), Kanchanaburi (3), Suphan Buri (3), Lop Buri (3), Ayutthaya (2). Saraburi (2), Phetchaburi (2), Chachoengsao (1), and Sa Kaeo (1).

The 9,224 new cases comprised 9,217 local infections and seven imported cases.

Of the local infections, 8,832 were confirmed at hospitals, 259 via mass testing and 126 at prisons.

Bangkok saw 758 new cases, down 44 from the previous day, followed by 666 in Pattani (+277), 554 in Nakhon Si Thammarat (+86), 548 in Songkhla (-47), 425 in Yala (+42), 414 in Chiang Mai (+11), 340 in Chon Buri (-42) and 290 in Narathiwat (-5).

The seven imported cases were one each from Uzbekistan, Singapore, South Korea and Turkey and three from Myanmar. They inlcuded an Uzbekistani girl aged 11, a Chinese woman from Singapore, 26, a Turkish man, 29, a Thai woman from South Korea, 43, a Thai man, 19, from Myanmar, and a Myanmar woman whose age was not reported.

As of Friday, 74.7 million shots of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered — 41.9 million the first dose (58.2% of the population), 30.4 million the second dose (42.2%) and 2.38 million the third shot. On Friday alone, 831,815 doses were administered,

As of Friday, 100,132 people remained at hospitals, up 831 from 99,301 on the previous day. They included 2,217 seriously ill patients (-5) and 496 dependent on ventilators (-19).

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 467,944 to 246.74 million. The worldwide death toll went up 7,581 to 5 million. The United States had the most cases at 46.77 million, up 89,469. Thailand ranked 24th globally with 1.90 million cases.
