A Thai doctor has received a coveted award at the 8th International Conference on Natural, Traditional & Alternative Medicine in Canada for his herbal extract product, which was named product of the year.

Dr Vorachoat Karunyasopon, chief research officer at Quality Plus Aesthetic International Company, said he collaborated with Kasetsart University's Institute of Research and Development of Agricultural Products and Agro-Industry to develop an innovative product.

The product was based on a study into beta-glucan that is derived from yeast, and Thai herbal extracts, including fingerroot, which are believed to stimulate and increase immunity.

He said the research work was recognised and his concoction won the Product of the Year award at the 8th International Conference on Natural, Traditional & Alternative Medicine organised in Vancouver in late October.

Dr Vorachoat, who obtained medical licences in both Canada and China, said the product was the result of combining 11 types of nutrients, vitamins and natural minerals into a nutraceutical product.

He said the product acts to strengthen the immune system, noting the team is proud their work could be used to help boost people's health amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
