UAE opens door to Thais

The Labour Ministry will sign an MoU with the United Arab Emirates' Ministry of Human Resources & Emiratisation to place an additional 60,000 workers in the UAE.

The two sides are focusing on job opportunities in the service, industry and health sectors, Minister of Labour Suchart Chomklin said yesterday.

Employment centres and labour development institutes will be set up to support the campaign, Mr Suchart said after visiting Abdulrahman Addulmannan Al Awar, the newly installed UAE minister, to discuss ways of collaborating on labour issues.

Mr Suchart thanked the country for taking care of Thai workers and helping them develop and transfer their skills.

He said the agreement will also help reduce the number of Thai workers working abroad illegally.

"Thailand and the UAE have reached an agreement to create 60,000 more job opportunities in several sectors. An MOU between the countries will be signed to kickstart the employment process as soon as possible," he said.

The UAE has a high demand for skilled labourers and Thailand is known for its workers in such professions as receptionists, cooks and masseurs.
