Man tricked minor for sex videos

A 24-year-old man was arrested in Buri Ram for duping a 12-year-old girl into sending sexually explicit videos of herself through an online game.

Police arrested Thanawan Saijai in Pa Kham district and seized his mobile phones on Saturday, said Pol Col Runglert Kantajan, superintendent of Thailand Internet Crimes Against Children (TICAC) Task Force.

The man was wanted on a warrant issued by Chiang Mai Provincial Court over several charges, including possession of child pornography, sexual exploitation, extortion and enticing a minor for indecent purposes. No further details were available.

The arrest came after the victim's parents filed a complaint with Saraphi police in Chiang Mai last November.

Pol Col Runglert said the victim met the suspect through Free Fire, an online mobile phone game.

The suspect approached the victim and duped the victim into sending him explicit videos that he later used to blackmail the victim's parents.

Mr Thanawan then fled from Chiang Mai to Buri Ram, where he was arrested, Pol Col Runglert said.

As children are spending an increasing amount of time online due to the pandemic, Pol Col Runglert urged parents to keep a closer eye on them.

They may come across inappropriate content or sexual predators while they browse the internet for online learning or just for fun during their leisure time.

Sometimes, suspects may pose as a model scout and trick victims into sending explicit photos for recruitment purposes, he added.
