Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered that the fence around Government House be made higher.
The fence is now only about two metres high because of the repeated elevation of the adjacent road surface in past years.
The prime minister recommended it be three to four metres high, an informed source said.
Officials from the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning had begun preparations for the work, with a survey of the current fence.
They were told to ensure the view of Government House is not blocked by the fence elevation.
