The country registered new 6,718 Covid-19 cases during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Tuesday morning, the fourth consecutive day new cases dropped. There were 12 more coronavirus-related fatalities.
The government announced 7,139 new cases and 13 fatalities on Monday morning.
Sumanee Wacharasin, hazard communication director of the Department of Disease Control, said in the afternoon the 12 new fatalities were between the ages of 50 and 94 years old. Of them, five were unvaccinated and three were inadequately inoculated.
The central plain logged six new deaths: two each in Bangkok and Chon Buri and one each in Trat and Prachin Buri.
The Northeast had a new fatality in Ubon Ratchathani. The South reported five more deaths, one in each of Chumphon, Trang, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Yala and Ranong. The North had no new fatalities.
Daily caseloads and fatalities were falling, Dr Sumanee said.
The new infections comprised 6,497 cases in the general population, 69 among prison inmates and 152 imported cases.
Of the local Covid-19 infections, 6,476 were confirmed at hospitals and 21 via mass testing.
Bangkok still had the most new cases at 1,269 (exceeding 1,000 for the sixth consecutive day), followed by 556 in Samut Prakan, 411 in Nonthaburi, 354 in Phuket, 314 in Chon Buri, 247 in Khon Kaen, 268 in Pathum Thani, 152 in Loei, 144 in Nakhon Ratchasima and 118 each in Si Sa Ket and Udon Thani.

Dr Sumanee said the most new clusters were found at factories and workplaces in Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Chon Buri, Ayutthaya, Sukhothai and Kanchanaburi.
The 152 imported cases included 52 from Russia, 15 each from Kazakhstan and the United States, seven each from France and the Netherlands and six each from Turkey and Sweden.
On Monday 81,532 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (down from 82,485), including 548 seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (down from 550) and 114 dependent on ventilators (unchanged).
The 24-hour period also saw 7,659 Covid-19 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.
Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 2,391,357 Covid-19 cases, including 167,922 cases this year, with 2,287,768 complete recoveries to date.
The death toll stood at 22,057 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 359 so far this year.
The kingdom’s 24-hour high of Covid-related fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 13, 2021. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 18, 2021.
Global Covid-19 cases rose by 2.03 million in 24 hours to 354.90 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 5,920 to 5.62 million.
The US had the most cases at 72.96 million, up 465,154, and the most deaths at 891,595, up 1,193.
Daily new cases exceeded 100,000 in the US, France and Spain. New cases almost reached 100,000 in the United Kingdom, Italy and Germany, Dr Sumanee said.
