At least seven academic venues have been prepared for students infected with Covid-19 to take their university entrance exams so to ensure the outbreak does not interfere with their basic right to an education, the Council of University Presidents of Thailand says.
However, only students with mild symptoms will be admitted to take the exam, said Chalie Charoenlarpnopparut, manager of the Thai University Central Admission System (TCAS).
They will be able to register online for a seat from Monday at student.mytcas.com.
The seven venues are Burapha University's Chanthaburi Campus, Thammasat University, Prince of Songkla University, Walailak University in Nakhon Si Thammarat, Suranaree University of Technology in Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen University in Khon Kaen, and Maejo University in Chiang Mai.
Mr Chalie said they should dress in student uniform and wear a face mask at all times. They are also encouraged to travel independently using their own vehicles or seek assistance from the public health officer regarding transport.
"We plan to designate more special zones for Covid-19 students in other provinces. So we would like students to keep us updated on their needs on our website. We have also opened a chat room for better communication," he said.
The Department of Health said infections among children aged 6-18 years are rising rapidly, from 7,466 at the end of January to 20,825 one month later.
Dr Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai, the department chief, said students should be double-jabbed before taking the exams.
