Teens arrested for underage sex rings

Police have arrested teenagers who allegedly procured minors for sexual services in four separate cases in the northern provinces.

The offenders advertised sexual services involving minors via Twitter and gave their Line chat ID to customers interested in learning further details and for making appointments.

The arrest results of the cases indicate that most offenders were teenagers, police said.

The first case took place in Chiang Mai's Fang district which began as a joint operation between a local government administrative unit and the Immanuel Foundation, an anti-human trafficking NGO.

Police arrested a 15-year-old girl who appeared to be the administrator of the Twitter account to contact customers in Pathum Thani and assisted with 16-year-old and 14-year-old victims who were forced to provide sexual services. Police said the service would cost about 2,000-3,000 baht per session and the sex-trade procurer would give about 200-500 baht to the girls each time.

Expanded investigations led to another case and the arrest of about 3-5 sex-trade procurers, aged 16-20 years, and helped nine victims, aged 12-14 years, in the same district. In this second case, customers would allegedly pick up the procurer and the victim to have sex at nearby hotels.

Police are tracking down those who purchased sex services in these first two cases.

For the other two cases, Thailand Internet Crimes Against Children cooperated with Hug Project Thailand and Muang police to arrest a 15-year-old male procurer of two minors for sex services in Muang district of Lampang. Police expanded the case to arrest 12 customers involving state officials, businessmen and nearby residents.

In Hang Chat district, the Child Woman Protection and Anti-Human Trafficking Centre Region 5 helped a 14-year-old girl from being duped into selling sex and a 23-year-old male procurer, after her parents lodged a complaint with police. Police also discovered a further nine girls, all aged 13, who were deceived into selling sex in the area. Two of them told police that they were asked to live with the man, in exchange for working in the sex trade.
