Universities brace for infected students

Twenty-four venues have been prepared for more than 1,700 students infected with Covid-19 to take their university entrance exams which begin today.

Chalie Charoenlarpnopparut, manager of the Thai University Central Admission System, said yesterday more special test centres have been added after the number of Covid-19 students registered to take exams hit 1,712.

Of the total, 1,441 have tested positive for the virus and the remaining 271 are close contacts of Covid-19 patients, he said, with about 700-800 asymptomatic or only suffering mild symptoms.

Initially, seven academic venues were prepared for 700-800 pupils, but that number had now more than doubled, he said.

Of these special exam centres, Thammasat University is the only one to allow infected students to stay overnight beforehand and more than 500 students have registered to take exams there, he said.
