Border crossers caught in Tak

TAK: Police arrested 36 illegal Myanmar migrants in Mae Sot district early on Tuesday morning.

The 26 men and 10 women were on two pickup trucks registered in Tak stopped after pursuit by police on a highway in Mae Sot district about 4.30am.

Police also detained the two Thai drivers, identified only as Thap, 24, and Nut, 21.

The drivers said they charged each passenger 500 baht for the trip, from a house in tambon Mae Sot to Phop Phra district of Tak.

Officials said human smuggling was an everyday event in Tak.

On Sunday night they arrested 53 illegal migrants hiding in a loaded vegetable truck. All said they were going to promised jobs at factories in Thailand.
