Online drug sellers busted

Police arrested six people suspected of involvement in the online sale of illegal drugs during raids in Bangkok and Pathum Thani yesterday morning and impounded assets worth 64 million baht.

Pol Lt Gen Sarayut Sa-nguanphokhai, commissioner of the Narcotic Suppression Bureau, said police, soldiers and local officials raided 20 premises, acting on information accumulated over the past three years.

Officials targeted properties linked to a the so-called Gerøge Häper gang in Sai Mai, Chom Thong and Bang Mod districts of Bangkok and Lam Luk Ka district of Pathum Thani.

Police seized 16,800 pills of ya ba (methamphetamine), 300 ecstasy pills and 1.99 grammes of ketamine found in the suspects' properties and vehicles.

Assets impounded included houses, title deeds, 13 vehicles, 900,000 baht in cash and bank accounts which showed more than 100 million baht in transactions.

The police had arrest warrants for the six suspects. They included Charoenchai Kalaphruek, 29, a suspected gang leader who allegedly used the Facebook account named Gerøge Häper and chat apps to communicate with drug buyers. Deliveries were supposedly made by accomplices and couriers.

Police withheld the name of the other five. Pol Lt Gen Sarayut said narcotics suppression police had impounded the assets from the gang worth 64 million baht accumulated over the three years.
