Cleaner fined over traffic tantrum

A man cleaning the windshield of people's cars in Bangkok was fined 1,000 baht for threatening a driver and making a nuisance in public, according to police.

The man was also reportedly barred from cleaning windows along the road for good.

Footage of a man threatening a driver amid traffic along the Kae Rai intersection went viral after it was posted on Facebook. It showed the man splashing liquid on the car and posturing as if he had a weapon in his back pocket.

The driver, later identified as Nattapon Piyanantakul, filmed the incident and said he refused to pay for an unsolicited service and the cleaner threatened to attack him.

Police at Rattanathibet police station identified the cleaner as Anuchit Bamteuk, 29.

Police said Mr Anuchit asked the driver's permission to clean the windshield and finished the service. However, when the driver refused to pay, Mr Anuchit became frustrated and splashed the car without knowing he was being recorded, police said.

Mr Anuchit said he regretted his wrongdoing and had no intention to attack or threaten the driver, police said.

He claimed he put a hand in his pocket to prevent his phone from falling out, police said.
