Eight million meth pills found in crashed SUV

NAKHON RATCHASIMA: Police seized about eight million amphetamine pills from a sports-utility vehicle which overturned in an accident in Chakrarat district yesterday morning, the Narcotics Suppression Bureau said.

NSB's Division 4 deputy commander, Pol Lt Col Yuthana Sangthong, said authorities decided to track a Bangkok-registered black Toyota Fortuner that was travelling on Highway 226 from Khong Chiam district in Ubon Ratchathani, after they received a tip-off that a large quantity of drugs was being smuggled from neighbouring Laos into the country.

However, when officers caught up with the vehicle at Nong Nok Kwak at Moo 7 in tambon Chakrarat, they saw the SUV had overturned and the two men seen inside the car were nowhere to be found.

The SUV was towed to Chakrarat police station, where officers found 18 bags containing 440,000 meth pills each stashed inside the vehicle. In total, police found about eight million pills.

An investigation is underway to find the drug smugglers.
