Ministry pushes training to meet demand in EEC

The Ministry of Labour is to launch more than 130 training courses, many focused on technology, robotics and management, to meet demand in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), the labour minister announced yesterday.

Speaking to reporters, Suchart Chomklin said that the Labour Ministry has proceeded with its mission according to the National Strategic Plan under Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha's government.

The plan is to increase the country's industrial capacity, he said.

The National Strategy also aims to expand the EEC, particularly parts of Chon Buri, Chachoengsao and Rayong provinces, by providing more training courses to local labourers and equipping them with more advanced skills, he said.

He said that the report confirmed by Prateep Songlamyong, director-general of the Department of Skill Development, said more than 7,000 labourers in EEC and 200,000 staff working for local entrepreneurs are to be given performance improvement plans for advanced technology, basic development in tourism, etc.

Mr Prateep added that more than 135 training programmes were developed by experts from interdisciplinary fields such as representatives from the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), Thai Automation and Robotics Association (Tara) and other professional associations.

The programmes provide an extensive grounding in electric vehicle manufacturing, logistics automation, warehouse robots and industrial robot operation and programming, according to Mr Prateep.
