Local app gains global recognition

Burapha University in Chon Buri province has won awards for its virtual clinic platform for remote treatment of Covid-19 patients.

The "weSAFE@Home" platform won a Technological or Digital Innovation of the Year trophy from the higher-education programme Awards Asia 2022 while also winning a global award for Crisis Management from the WURI Ranking 2022.

Watcharin Gasaluck, president of Burapha University, said it took part in combatting the pandemic by supporting remote treatment for patients to help ease the workload of medical personnel.

The university's Faculty of Engineering worked with other faculties and agencies to develop its Kin-Yoo-Dee platform into a platform for remote treatment of Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms, covering home and community isolation measures.

Patients are monitored closely by a Cloud Nurse team which comprises lecturers and students of the university's Faculty of Nursing and a psychiatry team from the Health Sciences department, as well as the departments of physical therapy, pharmacy, public health and sports science.

The platform ensures that patients whose symptoms are more severe will be treated immediately, Assoc Prof Watcharin said. It also comes up with real-time analysis to notify the system of patients in a bad way, and can process the data of 100 patients at a time, he said.
