The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) is planning to expand the enforcement of its standard framework of security requirements from the current 60 organisations of critical information infrastructure (CII) to 120 by the end of next year, said AVM Amorn Chomchoey, deputy secretary-general of NCSA.

The standard framework includes software and operating systems which state agencies and enterprises under seven categories of CII agencies must comply with, AVM Amorn said.

The agency will also enact a further 12 subordinated laws of the Cybersecurity Act by the end of this year so as to complement the country's cybersecurity ecosystem, on top of the current 29 laws which have already been implemented, he said.

AVM Amorn said that the NCSA pins its hopes that positive enforcement is the best approach for good cooperation from related agencies to improve cybersecurity for Thailand.

Yesterday, the NCSA held the 2022 Prime Minister Award–Thailand Cybersecurity Excellence Award ceremony for related CII agencies and general organisations with 34 organisations accepting awards and certificates.

Huawei Technologies Thailand was one of five companies that accepted a Cybersecurity Excellence Award (Supporting) at the event.

Abel Deng, Huawei Technologies Thailand CEO, said the award reflects the company's commitment to excellence, innovation, and leadership in information security.

In the past 12 months, Huawei Technologies Thailand joined a series of cybersecurity-related initiatives such as the "Thailand National Cyber Week" and the "Cyber Defense Initiative Conference".

It also collaborated with the NCSA for the "Thailand Cyber Top Talents", the first cyber-defence competition of its kind in Thailand that attracted 300 IT students to participate.

To reinforce Thailand's cybersecurity skills, Huawei sent a Thai team to the "Cyber SEA Game 2021" which attracted teams from across the Asean region, he said.

The Thai team bagged the first prize and was named the best cybersecurity team in Asean.
