Uni staffer charged with stealing tuition fees

A former university employee turned herself over to the police yesterday to answer embezzlement charges for allegedly stealing students' tuition fees and causing damage estimated at two million baht.

Alisa Potjanart, 43, appeared at Sam Sen police station in Bangkok with her lawyer to acknowledge the charges initiated by a group of students of Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University, Nakhon Pathom campus.

Police said the students knew the suspect and had entrusted her with their tuition money when she offered to make deposits for them.

They later learned she had kept the money for herself and given them bogus receipts. However they only found out when they were unable to graduate as the university informed them it had not received their tuition fees, police said.
