PATTAYA, CHON BURI: A Lao migrant worker was injured by an explosion at a food shop in Pattaya early on Tuesday.

The incident occurred about 5.50am at a shop in a two-storey commercial building selling khao moo daeng (rice with barbequed red pork), khao man kai (steamed rice topped with chicken) and noodles at Moo 10 village in tambon Nong Prue, Bang Lamung district, Pattaya police chief Pol Col Kulachart Kulachai said.

The explosion caused a side wall of the building to crumble and the roof collapse.

Khith Lovanxay, 29, a Lao migrant worker, was found in the rubble with serious injuries. He was admitted to a nearby hospital.

The explosion also caused damage to adjacent shops. The full extent of the damage was being assessed.

Officials from the disaster relief office of Pattaya City examined the damage. They said the explosion was not from a gas cylinder as initially thought.  The actual cause was still being investigated by forensic police.
