2,240 new Covid inpatients, 28 more deaths

There were 28 more Covid-19 fatalities and 2,240 new patients admitted to hospitals on Tuesday, the Ministry of Public Health reported on Wednesday.

This compared with 27 coronavirus-related fatalities and 994 patients on Monday, as reported on Tuesday.

As of midnight Tuesday, a total of 15,754 people were receiving Covid-19 treatment (up from 15,459 the previous day), including 8,634 in hospitals (down from 8,812). Of the remainder, 147 were in field hospitals/hospitel facilities (up from 142) and 6,911 in home/community isolation (up from 6,443).

Of those in hospitals, 765 were seriously ill patients with lung inflammation (down from 777) and 384 dependent on ventilators (unchanged).

The 24-hour period also saw 1,917 patients discharged from hospitals after recovering.

All the 2,240 new cases admitted to hospitals over the 24 hours were local cases.

The 28 people who died over the past 24 hours were aged from one to 90 years and included a Myanmar national.

Bangkok logged eight new deaths and there were two new fatalities in the adjacent provinces of Samut Sakhon and Nonthaburi.

Other central plains provinces further from the capital had 11 new deaths - three in Chon Buri, two in Ayutthaya and one each in Sing Buri, Lop Buri, Nakhon Sawan, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Sa Kaeo.

The North reported no new deaths.

The Northeast saw six new fatalities - two each in Nakhon Ratchasima, Roi Et and Khon Kaen.

The South had one new death in Phuket.

Since the pandemic started in early 2020, there have been 4,650,919 Covid-19 cases, including 2,427,484 this year, with 4,602,862 complete recoveries to date.

The accumulated death toll stood at 32,303 since the beginning of the pandemic, including 10,605 so far this year.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 543,810 in 24 hours to 607.17 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 1,559 to 6.49 million.

The United States had the most cases at 96.15 million, up 49,906, and the most deaths at 1.07 million, up 251.
