Pre-dawn fire hits Samui-adjacent Don Sak market

SURAT THANI: A fire broke out at a community market in Don Sak district of this southern province - known to tourists for its ferries to Koh Samui and Koh Phangan - early on Sunday, destroying two houses. There were no casualties, police said.

The fire started at about 4.20am in a house in Soi 4 off Chai Khram road in tambon Don Sak.

Fire engines from Don Sak Municipality and Thong Nien tambon administration organisation were dispatched to combat the fire.

Don Sak mayor Nanthanee Choeyklin was at the scene supervising the work of firefighters and evacuation of residents.

The fire was brought under control in about an hour after two houses were completely destroyed. There were no reports of deaths or injuries.

Police were investigating the cause of the fire.
