Thani: Suspected of abusing power

The Senate's ethics panel will give Thani Onlahiad 15 days to give his statement on a suspected abuse of power case involving a police corporal accused of abusing her maid, a committee spokesman said on Thursday.

Senator Somchai Sawaengkan revealed the outcome of Thursday's meeting regarding a petition against Pol Cpl Kornsasi Buayaem, who allegedly landed state jobs and several advisory positions in Senate committees and the now-defunct National Legislative Assembly via a connection involving Senator Thani.

Mr Somchai said the panel will take another one or two days to review all of the documents from the Secretariat of the Senate and the evidence provided by ex-Democrat MP Watchara Phetthong, who accused Mr Thani of abusing his power.

Mr Somchai said the panel will give Mr Thani 15 days to prepare his verbal or nonverbal statement instead of summoning him next week as planned.
