PATHUM THANI: Water levels in flood-hit Rangsit began falling on Friday as large pumps helped drain the overflowing Rangsit Prayoonsak canal into the Chao Phraya River.

Royal Irrigation Department director-general Prapit Chanma said nine 30-inch pumps were installed on Thursday to accelerate the drainage of water to the Chao Phraya River, and two more were being added.

Irrigation officials were on full alert around the clock to help out where ever needed, he said.

Days of heavy rain has caused flooding in many areas of Pathum Thani, with the Rangsit area of Thanya Buri district hardest hit.
