Palace pays tribute to late queen

A portrait of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been placed at the Grand Palace in Bangkok so people can pay their respects and express their condolences on His Majesty the King's instruction.

The portrait of the late British monarch, whose funeral was held on Monday in London about 10 days after her passing on Sept 8, will be placed at the Manee Nopparat Gate of the Grand Palace until Sept 25, according to the Royal Household Bureau.

This is to allow the general public and state agencies to join in remembering the late queen and as a tribute to the close relations between the two royal families and kingdoms.

The late Queen Elizabeth II visited Thailand twice in 1972 as a guest of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great.

The queen visited again in 1996 with her consort the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, to celebrate the 50th anniversary or the Golden Jubilee of King Bhumibol from Oct 28 to Nov 1.
