A 26-year-old woman who suffered serious burns during the fire at the Mountain B pub in Chon Buri's Sattahip district has died, taking the death toll to 25.
Parichart Kwanyuenyong, an office worker, died at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital in Bangkok late on Saturday evening, said Darawadee Katekaew, the victim's sister.
Parichart, who suffered burns to 85% of her body, was admitted to Queen Sirikit Naval Hospital in Sattahip district on the day of the blaze before being transferred to the hospital in Bangkok.
According to her sister, Parichart had complications during treatment, including kidney failure and fungal arthritis. Doctors decided to end the treatment on Saturday after she did not respond to medication, she said.
Funeral rites will take place at Wat Nong Wa in Rayong province.
Parichart's mother said her daughter's condition had improved and she was able to walk and consume fluids. However, it deteriorated over the past two weeks after she underwent surgery.
The owner of Mountain B pub had paid a total of 170,000 baht in compensation, which was not enough to cover the medical bills, she said. The family had to advance 300,000 baht to cover the medical expenses.
A lawsuit by the families of the fire victims, seeking compensation from the pub's owner, is pending in the Pattaya court.
The fire started in the early hours of Aug 5. Thirteen people died at the scene as they were trapped inside.
After the fire, authorities found the venue was operating without a proper permit and it had undergone extensive modifications, involving the use of highly-combustible materials. An emergency exit also was blocked off at the time of the fire.
Somyos Panprasong, 55, owner of the pub, was charged with recklessness causing deaths and injuries, and operating an entertainment venue without permission.
